Old Business

  • Call to Order
    • Vice-President, Brent Cowan, called the meeting to order.
  • Approval of Minutes
    • Minutes from last month were approved with no changes.
    • Sandee Razminas reported a balance of $21,361.53.
  • NTASHA Fall Classic Review
    • Nancy Lassiter reported several statistics from the show:
      • There were 11 (net) more TWH horses showing than at the 2001 show.
      • There was only 1 (net) more ASB horse showing than at the 2001 show.
      • Specifically, we added 4 new ASB exhibitors from last year.
    • It breaks down like this:
      • Bayou Park, Milligans, and Brent/Betsy Cowan brought less horses than in 2001
      • Jack Magill Stables and Teri Beaty did not show at all this year.
      • Paul Cates and Debbie Graves brought more horses to the show this year than last year.
    • The club discusses the fact that new ASB exhibitors are harder to draw to the show than TWH because many more TWH are single owners/trainers, whereas ASB horses tend to be with large barns.
    • Debbie Graves suggested that the way to ensure all the barns in the area participate in the show is to talk directly with the clientele of those barns and promote the show to them. Mark Butschek also mentioned that NTASHA gets support from trainers south of the area, one of which supports the show even though he can only stay for one day of showing. Nancy Lassiter also mentioned that the club hopes to find a facility that has better footing than JJ did. Brent Cowan made the point that the $50.00 Championship prize money should help with returning exhibitors for next year as well. Overall the membership was very pleased with the show turnout.
  • Awards Banquet
    • Trophies
      • Gail Kirkland reported that Cactus Trophies is working with us on prices:
        • Texas High Point plaques are $7.60 (small) and $8.87 (large) each. Last year these cost $15.70 each.
        • Clear acrylic NTASHA Trophies will be $15.00 (small) and $17.00 (large) each. Last year these were $27.06 each.
        • Gail also presented an option to the clear acrylic NTASHA trophies and while a decision was not made, the membership preferred the clear acrylic.
      • Thanks to Gail for doing a great job hunting down a new trophy vendor!
    • Banquet
      • Candee Carlson reported that the Quorum Marriott is available on NTASHA's preferred date: Saturday February 1.
        • Food will increased from last year, to $38.95 per person for a choice of chicken or salmon (includes banquet room rental).
        • The hotel will set up casino and DJ service for us, but for a large fee ($800.00 DJ and $1,265.00 to $1,565.00 for casino games).
      • Steve Bander announced that he's in a band (Dr. Rock), and would charge $700.00 for the seven-piece classic rock band to play at the banquet. He also said he would look into a less expensive source for the casino games. Candee said she would reserve the date, but the banquet committee would discuss food and follow up with Steve about the casino games.
      • At the banquet in 2001, dinner was from 7-8 p.m., the awards ceremony took place from 8-9 p.m., and the casino and DJ went from 9-11:30 p.m. Also last year, there was a soft drink bar that cost $225.00 and was limited to two drinks per child. Membership decided not to have this again and include soft drinks in the cash bar.

New Business

  • Mark Butschek noted that the TASHA show has a new $500.00 Juvenile Scholarship at the show this year (awarded to the highest 17 and Under classes points earner), and discussion continued about the pros and cons to making this work at the NTASHA show. Discussion was tabled until a later meeting.

    • Conflicts with these three dates, however, are Valentine's weekend February 15, and the ASHA convention on February 23.
    • Gail Kirkland reported that Linda Marzak wants to put up a photo montage at the banquet.
    • Janie Hamilton reported that about 20 of the High Point trophies had to be redone and she has been less than happy with the service. If anyone knows of a vendor that would be happy to help the club with better service, please contact Janie Hamilton.
    • There were 89 Texas High Point Awards at $15.70 each and 48 NTASHA High Point Awards at $27.06 each. The club needs to stay around $15.00 to $16.00 per trophy.

  • Awards Banquet
    • This will be discussed at the next meeting.

New Business

  • UPHA Challenge Cup
    • Janie Hamilton said that historically, NTASHA has donated $500.00, TASHA has donated $500.00, and Jack Schatzburg has donated $250.00 towards this $1,250.00 scholarship fund. This class has been held at the State Fair Horse Show. There have not been any competitors in this class for the past three years, and apparently the class was moved to the Dixie Jubilee Horse Show. However the premium book does not list the class. Janie said she would confirm one way or the other. The membership voted not to sponsor the class if it is schedule for the Dixie Jubilee. If it is not scheduled for the Jubilee, Janie will work to get the class moved to TASHA in December.
  • JJ Expo
    • Janie Hamilton informed the club that JJ Expo has been sold and will no longer hold horse shows. NTASHA will need to look for another facility for next year's show.

This anonymous donation will pay for the printing of the 450 premium books, as well as other show essentials such as trophies and ribbons.
    • Janie explained that being ahead on sponsorships ensures future continuation of the show, as well as enables the club to sponsor clinics and have a great awards banquet. Thanks to all who donated. Remember that NTASHA is a non-profit organization, and all money it collects goes toward year-round programs.
  • NTASHA Fall Classic TWH Judge

Adult shirts cost $6.95 ($8.92 for XXL) and Kids' shirts cost $5.87. The club discusses ordering more or different shirts to sell this year at the show. Old Business

  • Call to Order
    • Janie Hamilton called the meeting to order.
  • Approval of Minutes
    • Minutes from last month were approved with the following changes: prize money will be paid in academy classes in the Fall Classic; judges being considered were suggested by Janet Thompson and do not include Janet; and Chelsea Butschek attended last month's meeting.
    • Sandee Razminas reported a balance of $7,927.66.
  • NTASHA Fall Classic Class Sponsorships

  • NTASHA Fall Classic Class Positions
    • Nancy Lassiter reported that Missy Hughes is not available. Amanda Simpson from Hartland Stables in Grimes, Iowa has agreed to be the Saddlebred judge. Other positions are as follows:
      • Announcer: Melissa Cole
      • Exhibitor BBQ: Joe Bradshaw, Sr.
      • Ringmaster: Sue Clonowski
    • Tropical Johns will provide flowers again this year and Gate Keepers are still needed. Confirmed vendors so far include a candle vendor, Mary Helen Holly with clothing, and Kathleen Fam with tack. A message has been left with Stephanie Hosack, the jewelry vendor. Action Shots has not yet be confirmed as the photographer.
    • Sandee Razminas reviewed the trophies from last year:
      • Championship classes: tote bags $25.00

      • Academy Qualifier: small trophies $7.00
      • Ribbons cost around $3.00
      • Blue ribbon winners also received a long sleeve t-shire
    • Discussion focused on keeping trophies for the Academy Qualifiers, but giving something more useful for other classes. Brent Cowan suggested medallions and ribbons, and Mark Butschek suggested larger ribbons. Sandee will present other prize ideas at the next meeting, and will stay in the current price range.
    • Ashley Kirkland volunteered to sell NTASHA T-shirts at the show.
    • Donna Skinner also announced that the Sultan Replica will be presented again this year at the show.

New Business

  • Academy Attire
    • Debbie Graves asked that NTASHA no longer allow coats in Academy classes. Currently wearing coats is an option. She stated that in Kentucky kids do not even wear suit pants or derbies, they wear work jods. She said that is was unfair for kids who don't have a coat to compete with kids who do.
    • Candee Carlson said that academy riders should have the option. Many Academy riders will never have a show horse, and being suited in Academy classes is a way they can fully experience showing, including being able to buy a pretty picture of themselves riding that they can be proud of. It's part of the respect that goes with showing a horse at any level. She also stated that there are always plenty of suits and coats that can be borrowed between rider and between barns.
    • Janie stated that the matter would be put before the membership via a mailed ballot.

  • NTASHA Website
    • Janie Hamilton reported that current high points are now posted on the website.
  • NTASHA Fall Classic Class Sponsorships and Prize Money
    • Janie Hamilton started this discussion by saying it's extremely important that NTASHA members take responsibility for making sure all classes at the show are sponsored. The club cannot have prize money for any classes if all classes are not sponsored by August 15. Discussion produced the following decisions voted on by the membership:
      • All class sponsorships will now be $25.00.
      • Prize money will be limited to $50.00 per Championship class, excluding Equitation classes.
    • Sandee Razminas, as the Center Ring Manager, will be responsible for either attaching the cash to the winning ribbon or directly handing the winning rider the cash.

      • Sue Klonowksi confirmed as Ring Master

  • Mark Butschek, Barbe Butschek, Candee Carlson, Janie Hamilton, Viktoria Hanson, Terri Harkins, Alissa Harkins, Marty Graves, Debbie Graves, Gail Kirkland, Ashley Kirkland, Nancy Lassiter, and Sandee Razminas

Old Business

  • Call to Order
    • Janie Hamilton called the meeting to order.
  • Approval of Minutes
    • Minutes from last month had one change: NTASHA donated $300.00 to Rockwall Extravaganza and Candee Carlson donated $20.00.
    • Sandee Razminas reported a balance of $8,337.93.

    • Please remember to turn in your service hours. Viktoria Hanson and Terri Harkins will now be responsible for collecting hours from members.
  • Rockwall Extravaganza
    • All classes were sponsored.

New Business

  • Horse Exposition in Belton
    • Janie Hamilton reported that June 23-24 there is a horse exposition in Belton, Texas. For a stall and a booth the cost is $200.00. If anyone is interested in attending, please contact Janie for more details.
  • NTASHA Fall Classic 2002
    • The Fall Classic is scheduled for October 5-6 at JJ Expo. This year there is no conflict with this date and other horse shows or sales. Janie Hamilton does not have a conflict either and will be the show manager. She will also call John Clayton and get the contract drafted. The following positions were discussed:
      • Show Manager: Janie Hamilton
      • Hospitality: Gail Kirkland will be responsible for hotel arrangements and transportation for judges, the announcer, and any other official that needs it. She will also be responsible for center ring volunteers and ribbon/trophy presenters. Gail will contact Susan Johnson for the Ford vehicles again this year.
      • Center Ring Manager: Sandee Razminas will be responsible for purchasing trophies, ribbons, and center ring refreshments.
    • A lengthy discussion was held about paid positions. Paid positions require that person to be present at the show the full day. The pay is $50.00 per day. Contracts will now be signed by each person who holds a paid position. Janie Hamilton will be responsible for getting contracts signed. Positions which were paid in the past are: show manager, office manager, office secretary, office assistant, and paddock master. Since Koren Mercer is leaving, there will only be three paid positions in the show office. Janie Hamilton, Nancy Lassiter, and Meg Rockman will hold those positions. Meg will earn service hours and not be paid for the work on the premium book. Janie noted that paid positions do not earn service hours for time compensated with money at the same time.
    • Gate Keepers will now be paid. There will be one person for the in-gate and one for the out-gate and those people must be at the show the whole day. However the job may be held by different people on each day.
    • As a reminder, all ribbon and trophy presenters must be at least 12-years-old.
    • Photographer: Janie has been talking to Action Shots. However, they require mileage and hotel be paid. Mileage is not something NTASHA has paid in the past. Janie will also contact Casey McBride and Jim Wright. Jack Schatzberg has been ruled out.
    • Organist: Janie will contact Lulu. decided that Jamie delayed the show too much by announcing and handling the music at the same time so the Announcer and Organist should be two different people.
    • Paddock Master: Ann Kimball was paddock master last year and Janie will ask her again.
    • Ringmaster: Janie will ask Sue Klonowski, who did it last year. It was suggested that Brent Cowan might be interested as well.
    • Last years vendors got free access to the show if they bought a $25.00 ad in the premium book. This year NTASHA will charge a $50.00 vendor fee for one or both days. Last year vendors included candles, jewelry, clothes, and roasted nuts. Janie will ask the same vendors, and Gail Kirkland will pursue new vendors. A location for the vendors to set up was discussed and tabled until next meeting.
    • The Bar-B-Que is a large part of the show. Joe Bradshaw will be asked again this year to prepare the lunch.
    • Premium Book: There was much discussion about ad space and cost of the premium book:
      • Printing of the Book: $550.00
      • Postage: $150.00
      • Revenue: $1,250.00 from Ad Sales
    • It was suggested that the club could go back to a legal sized piece of paper that just held class schedules and show guidelines. Further discussion about the premium book was tabled for the next meeting.
    • Class Sponsorships: Last year, NTASHA charges $30.00 for Championship classes and $20.00 for Qualifying classes. Janie suggested changing these to $25.00 per class, which the club discusses last year. Sponsorship is crucial to the club's success and the show's success. Janie proposed that this year, every club member should get a fund raising letter stating that NTASHA needs the help of each and every member. Various types of letters and motivation was discussed, but the discussion will continue at the next meeting. Last year NTASHA brought in a total of $6,100.00 in ads, sponsorships, and donations from the show:
      • Ads: $1,250.00
      • One Donation: $2,000.00
      • Sponsorships at the Show (Mainly from Walking Horse people): $500.00
    • T-Shirts and Bags: These were discussed and tabled until the next meeting. The club needs to locate left-overs and decide if it will sell anything at this show.
    • Prize Money: Janie Hamilton will review the class schedule to (a) make any changes and (b) decide where prize money might be best awarded. One suggestion was to just have three Championship classes were $50.00 each is awarded. Further decisions were tabled until the next meeting.
